Since you guys are doing the most lametastic shit themeday (A colour? Seriously? The second day in a row? And then you choose one that by definition isn't even a colour, moreso the lack thereof!) the only way to contribute was for me to tease you with something you can't have.
This is the Cupra (short for Cup Racing) version of Seat's current Leon that they are going to present at this year's Geneva Auto Show. It's basically a GTI with some Spanish herbs and spices sprinkled over it.
For some weird reason there will be two engine tunes available, 265 or 280 hp. Why they offer two versions of VW's 2.0L TSI which are even priced very close to each other is beyond me.
Anyways, they reach 100 kph in less than 6 seconds (5.7 - 5.9, 0.1 seconds difference between the engines and/or between DSG or manual) and are limited to 250 kph.
Starting prices are a tad higher than that of the GTI, but so is the base trim. All in all, you get a faster car, with much more interesting styling, for around the same money. Who could say no to that? Show of hands? Yeah, figured that.

Comparing this with the GTI is somewhat unfair.

It would only be teasing if I wanted one, though (I don't). Jalopnik billed this as the beautiful GTI I can't get, but it just looks like a lazy bodykit to me.

Would you say that they'll do another Cupra R, too? Between this and a GTI or even Golf R, I'd likely end up wanting the Leon most ... it just isn't a Golf, and it looks a lot better in the metal, too.
Why are other countries so mad for zee GTIs. :<

I would LOVE to have ANY Cupra actually, and SEAT just (well, last year) started selling cars in Norway again.

Meh. Looks good from the side and the back, but the front is wayyyyy too Lexus-y.
There will be two different HP ratings on the MK7 GTI as well, one "regular" and one "sports pack". The latter also has an LSD. I'm curious as to whether either of the Cupra variants will have one.

I personally wouldn't take either car, but the Leon Cupra is the brash cousin. It looks considerably different from the standard model, which by itself has a more extrovert design than the Golf. Despite the fact that both cars are the same when it comes to guts, they're aimed at different demographics. The Golf GTI is meant to appeal to more conservative people. The Leon Cupra is meant to appeal to extroverts.
